They

said it couldn’t be done, but after six months of nose-to-the-ground work and support from many, CarShareHFX is on the move. I am Pam Cooley, President and co-owner of CarShareHFX which is a carsharing organization. Carsharing is a new mobility option for people who want to use a car occasionally but do not want to own a car. I invite you to come and see what we have put together.

This is my first blog entry and so, be gentle with me as I lose my blog virginity and learn blog protocol and as I yak about some of my favorite subjects, those being….well, carsharing, businesses that attempt to do good things, Halifax, city planning and hmnnnn, well, I have an opinion about just about everything.

I hope you will consider coming to the CarShareHFX website and have a boo and let me know what you think…even if you have a car to get around, let’s talk…tell me what you think about the concept. Thanks!

Be back soon…PMC

OKay, so here is the vision…carsharehfx cars within a ten minute walk of each other, thousands of Haligonians choosing to share cars instead of worrying about parking payments, insurance payments, car payments, maintenance payments, easy access and discounts to Metro transit, more safe bike paths and bike racks, affiliated taxi and rental companies, incentive preferred parking at stores that have values and at meters on Halifax streets…

This means more money in your pocket and you can still get around! This mean less GHG in your neighbourhoods. This means a more integrated mobility system in Halifax.

Yes, we want it all. Did you know that in Philadelphia there are over 55,000 carshare drivers??? In Montreal there are over 700 cars that people share! If we estimate that for each one of those cars 15 - 20 personal use vehicles are not on the road…well you can see what a difference it would make in traffic, parking conditions and good quality of life (less noise, exhaust, etc.)

What do you think? Are you in? What is the down side???

Check out the article in the Chronicle Herald on December 4th. Thanks to the nice work of business reporter Clare Mellor.

Remember the Founder’s Campaign ends on December 10th (which is Human Rights Day). The idea behind the Founders Campaign is to have an exchange with people who come on early. You can be a pioneer with us bringing carsharing to Halifax and help us get the kinks out, let us know what can make it better. Let me know what you think!
